Heather McLeod is an actuary by training and has been a consultant in healthcare financing since 1993.
Integrated Healing was established in 1998 as a vehicle for providing consulting services to public and private sector clients and NGOs. The consulting company was registered in New Zealand as Heather McLeod & Associates Ltd in 2010.
The website serves to provide access to resources on a number of topic areas for policymakers, academics, students and researchers.
The website has historical material on healthcare financing, health policy and social security from my years as a consultant in South Africa. Topic areas include private health insurance, risk equalisation, healthcare reform and universal coverage. Particular features are the material on the development of the risk equalisation formula for South Africa and the policy in respect of National Health Insurance.
A personal interest over the years has been homeopathy, naturopathy, energy medicine and various forms of indigenous healing.
My policy interests since 2011 have been in palliative and end-of-life care. Current research interests are on the impact of longevity on trajectories at the end of life and the impact on palliative care and the funding of end-of-life care.
Features of the site
The logo had its inspiration in the symbol for balance in Chinese medicine and philosophy: yin and yang: dark and light, feminine and masculine in balance.
This logo has three inter-locking and inter-dependant elements, reminiscent of Hindu philosophy. Here they represent not Brahma, Vishnu and Siva, but Body, Mind and Soul. The whole represents the Planet, Gaia, Earth Mother.
Years later I discovered the similarity to the Gankyil symbol which is a teaching tool of Dzogchen in Tibetan Buddhism.
